Arrival Info

Planning to visit SmashDown in Woodstock? Here is what to wear, when to arrive and what to expect before your session starts.

What To Wear For Your Session

Come dressed for movement and a bit of mess. Closed shoes are required, and sturdy trainers are best because there may be broken fragments underfoot after the session. Wear clothes you do not mind getting dusty, marked or stretched, and avoid loose items that can snag while you are putting on safety gear.

Most guests are comfortable in long pants or jeans and a T-shirt. In summer, light layers help because Cape Town can heat up quickly in the afternoon, while in winter a hoodie or jacket is useful for the trip in. If you are coming from the office, change before you arrive if you can, rather than trying to sort out your outfit in a hurry once you get here.

  • Closed shoes only, no sandals, heels or slip-ons
  • Comfortable clothes that cover your arms and legs
  • Keep jewellery to a minimum
  • Bring a hair tie if you have long hair

How Early To Arrive In Woodstock

Please arrive a little early so there is time for check-in, forms and your safety briefing. If you are coming from the city bowl, Observatory, Salt River or the N1 side, allow extra time for traffic, parking and getting your group together. Late arrivals can reduce your session time, so it is better to plan for a few minutes to spare.

If you are booking for a group, event or team session, one person should arrive first to help with the sign-in process. That makes things smoother when everyone else turns up, especially if the group is coming from different parts of Cape Town or from Stellenbosch, Paarl, Somerset West or Bellville.

  • Arrive early enough to sign in without rushing
  • Allow for traffic, parking and loading delays
  • Let your group know the meeting time, not only the session time

What Happens Before The Smashing Starts

Every session begins with a short check-in and briefing. A team member will confirm your booking, go through the rules, and explain how the room works. You will also be shown how to move safely in the space and how to use your protective gear before anything starts.

Depending on the session type, you may be grouped with your friends, your colleagues or your private event guests. The briefing is kept clear and practical, so you know what to expect from the start. If something is not clear, ask before you enter the room because once the session starts the focus is on safe movement and control.

  • Booking check-in and confirmation
  • Safety briefing and room instructions
  • Issue of protective gear
  • Final questions before entry

Safety Gear You Will Be Given

Before you go into the room, you will be issued with the required safety gear. This includes a helmet, face shield, gloves and overalls. The gear is there to protect you while you take part, and it must be worn for the full session. If the fit is not right, tell the team before you begin so it can be adjusted properly.

We also check that you are wearing closed shoes before entry. If you arrive in unsuitable footwear, you may not be allowed to continue until that is sorted out. That is not negotiable, because the room can contain sharp edges and broken material after the session is underway.

  • Helmet
  • Face shield
  • Gloves
  • Overalls
  • Closed shoes

Minimum Ages And Group Rules

Minimum age requirements apply and younger participants may need an adult present, depending on the booking type. This is to make sure everyone understands the safety rules before entering the room. If you are booking for a birthday, student group, sports club or staff social, please check the age details during the enquiry stage so the session is set up correctly.

Group bookings work best when everyone arrives together or at least within a short window. If you have a larger booking for a launch event, hen or stag group, or a mobile event outside Woodstock, one person should handle the arrival list and keep the group moving. It saves time and avoids confusion at the door.

  • Age rules apply to all participants
  • Adults may be needed for younger guests
  • One group leader helps keep check-in simple

After Check-In And Before You Leave

Once your session is done, the team will give you time to remove gear, collect your personal items and settle up any final admin if needed. Your clothing may be dusty and there may be a bit of debris on you or around the room, so it helps to bring a bag for valuables and anything you want to keep clean. A quick change of shirt or shoes can make the trip home easier, especially if you are heading back to the office or out to dinner.

If you are part of a corporate booking or content shoot, the coordinator will help with the flow so the group can move on without delays. For visitors coming from outside Cape Town, it is worth planning a little extra time after the session too, because people often need a few minutes to rinse off, regroup and sort out transport. Small thing, but it makes the whole visit calmer.
