Content Shoots

SmashDown offers supervised content shoots for photo and video teams that need a controlled smash room setting, clear safety rules and practical on site support. We work with individual creators, agencies and production crews in Woodstock, Cape Town and can plan sessions for projects across South Africa.

Controlled smash-room shoots for photo and video crews

Content shoots at SmashDown are set up for stills, short-form video, product shots and promo clips that need a high-energy setting without losing control of the space. The room is managed by our team from start to finish, with safety briefings, gear checks and clear boundaries so the camera crew can focus on the shoot.

We work with small teams as well as larger groups, and the session is planned around what the production needs on the day. That can include a simple portrait setup, action footage, behind-the-scenes content or staged group shots. The venue is in Woodstock, Cape Town, with access for crews coming from Observatory, Salt River, Bellville, Somerset West, Stellenbosch and Paarl.

  • Supervised access to the smash area
  • Clear rules for movement, positioning and safe distance
  • Support for photo, video and mixed content formats
  • Suitable for creator shoots, brand content and event footage

What is included in a content shoot booking

A content shoot booking includes venue access for the agreed session window, a safety briefing, protective gear and practical guidance from our crew. Every participant who enters the smash area is fitted with the required safety items before anything starts, and the space is checked before and after the session.

The main protective gear includes a helmet, face shield, gloves, overalls and closed shoes. The briefing covers how to enter and leave the room, where to stand, how to handle items safely and what the camera team can do while filming. If a production needs a quiet reset between takes, we can pause the session and reset the area.

  • Briefing before entry into the smash room
  • Helmet, face shield, gloves and overalls provided on site
  • Closed shoes required for all participants
  • Supervised use of the room throughout the booking

How the booking process works from enquiry to shoot day

Bookings start with an enquiry through our contact form, where you can share the shoot type, the number of people involved and the date you want to secure. From there we confirm the session format, check any access needs and advise on the best way to structure the booking for your production.

On the day, the team welcomes the crew, runs the briefing and helps with the sequence of the session. If the shoot includes multiple setups, we can move through them in an order that keeps the room safe and organised. The process is practical and straightforward, which helps when you are working to a shot list and trying to keep people on time.

  • Send your enquiry through the contact form
  • Confirm the type of shoot and number of participants
  • Receive booking details and site instructions
  • Arrive for the briefing, safety check and supervised session

Session timing, turnaround and on site preparation

Content shoots are arranged with turnaround in mind, because production teams often need time for setup, reset and wrap. We keep the venue preparation simple and organised so the room can move from one setup to the next without unnecessary delay. That matters when a crew needs clean frames, repeat takes or a fast change between stills and video.

For crews planning a longer day, we can discuss a session structure that allows for the movement of people in and out of the room, cleaning between sets and practical pauses for file checks or battery swaps. This is especially useful for shoots where lighting, audio or costume changes are involved. In Cape Town weather, the indoor setting also helps keep the session steady when it is hot, windy or wet outside.

Pricing approach for production work and event teams

Pricing is handled on a quote basis so the booking can match the size of the group, the length of the session and the level of support needed. This keeps the process fair for small creator shoots as well as larger commercial productions. We do not push fixed package talk when the job needs a proper brief first.

When quoting, we look at the booking date, the number of people in the room, the likely time on site and any added coordination required for crew movement or repeat resets. If your production is coming from outside Woodstock, we can also plan around transport and arrival timing so the day runs properly.

  • Quoted individually based on the brief
  • Suitable for single creator sessions and larger crews
  • Can be structured around one-off shoots or repeat content work
  • Clear scope before the booking is confirmed

Safety rules, minimum ages and maintenance intervals

Safety is built into every content shoot. We maintain the room regularly, check the protective gear before sessions and tidy the smash area after each booking so the space stays safe for the next group. Maintenance happens between sessions and at set intervals depending on usage, which helps us keep the venue ready for controlled filming.

Minimum age rules apply and all participants must follow the briefing. Anyone entering the room must wear the required gear and closed shoes, and no one is allowed to bypass the safety steps for the sake of a shot. That includes creators, presenters, crew members and anyone appearing on camera. If a production wants to capture the briefing or the gear fitting, we can include that as part of the content plan.

  • Regular room checks between bookings
  • Gear inspections before each session
  • Minimum age rules applied on site
  • Briefing and supervision required for all participants
